San Francisco

Last weekend, Leo and I were in San Francisco, one of my favorite cities. It was a fun-filled few days, and we thoroughly enjoyed getting at least eight solid hours of sleep each night. It had been a while. Apparently, Lucas slept like a champ at Gramma and Grampa Totland's house, so my parents also got a solid eight hours of sleep. Highlights from the trip included Pier 39, a Bay Area Cruise, Muir Woods, Lombard Street, Alcatraz and biking the Golden Gate Bridge.

Winning the Battle

Leo, Lucas and I spent the weekend in Mooresville, NC visiting family.

My dad's sister's daughter (I guess it's much easier just to say my cousin, Nikki) lives there with her husband, Chip and two adorable children, Jackson and Riley.

It was a weekend to celebrate! Jackson was diagnosed on January 26th, 2006 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. For the past three years, he has undergone chemotherapy and is now cancer FREE! He has been a little figher and is now ready to get back to the business of being a child (which apparently involves some very rough play if this weekend is any indication of what I have to look forward to) AND

put this cancer stuff behind him. We are so happy for you, Jackson and so glad this phase of your life is over!

We flew into NC on Friday afternoon. It was Lucas' first flight, and he was a little angel. Not a peep was heard out of our boy. In fact, the nice gentleman who was sitting in front of us said (as he was departing the plane), "I didn't even realize there was a baby behind me."

It's too bad the same can't be said for my dad. Unfortunately, he snores loudly which normally wouldn't bother me, but Leo, Lucas and I just happened to be sharing a hotel room with him and my mom

this weekend. Thankfully, the hotel had a 24-hour business center so I could spend some time in the wee hours of the morning checking my e-mail instead of listening to my dad snore and desperately wishing for a few more hours of sleep. Aunt Barb

generously offered some breathe right nasal strips; unfortunately, my dear father woke up with the nasal strip stuck to his cheek during the night. I can vouch for the fact that nasal strips do NOT work when they aren't stuck to your nose!

But enough about the snoring because there are much more fun things to talk about... like the pool party we went to on Saturday afternoon. Nothing is better than a pool party when it is 95 degrees, hot, humid and sunny. Lucas lathered up with a little SPF 50 and spent the rest of the afternoon lounging in the pool. He's pretty good at this lounging stuff - wouldn't you agree?

Sunday afternoon was spent touring Lake Norman on this houseboat.

We saw some ridiculously large houses on our tour. We were in Nascar country, and some of these ridiculously large houses belonged to Nascar drivers (I couldn't tell you their names), but they had amazing homes. We definitely enjoyed the scenery but mostly just enjoyed being on the water, relaxing and of course one or two cocktails.

All good things must come to an end, including our trip to NC. We flew back to MN on Monday evening but not before doing a little fishing off of the dock. Can you guess how many fish Jackson caught???
